22nd September
Well, I've just finished my second week of work and I have to say it went a LOT better than the first. After being taken advantage of a bit in the first week by these hormonal teenagers this week I laid down the law!! Step in super tough hannah! ;) I think a week of lessons on the school rules should just about do it! Did you know that in Hong Kong they have a discipline master? It's his sole job to discipline the students. They are all s*** scared of him (and so am I) so all you have to do is threaten to pass their name on to him and that shuts them up pretty quickly... nice! I do absolutely love some of my classes, there are some really nice kids. I know I shouldn't have favourites, but I already do. There's an S6 called fortune who is absolutely lovely, he always chats to me if he sees me which is nice in a school where everyone is speaking a different language. Also this week on thurs I went out with all the other English teachers for a meal after school cos one of the teaching assistants was leaving and that was really nice. I was a bit worried about the other teachers because the girl who was doing my job last year left me some tips and said that it would be hard to integrate, but i have found the exact opposite. Today I took part in my first lunch broadcast... basically at lunchtimes there's a radio show which lasts about 10mins that goes out over the PA in every classroom in the school. Today the S7's interviewed me about my views on smoking, I was actually quite nervous. It was really funny though because right before we were about to start one of the boys broke the mic, he pulled it right off of its stand so we were all rushing trying to get it back on before the start. I'm getting a sore throat from all the loud speaking I've been doing, def a case of new teacher syndrome.
